Story book from ages ago maybe you have it i just need the name?

when i was younger i had a bed time story book that contained 'the little red hen' among others.

does any one remember the name of the book te illustrations where done by richard scarry and as far as i know he wrote the little red hen 2.

If any one knows the name of the book please let me know ( i think the book had a white cover or blue) thanks

Its a big story book containing loads of story's and the only story i remember is the little red hen that was the name of the story.. its about a hen who wants to make bread but none of his friends will help im so he does it al by him self.

maybe this will help when he asks his friends for help

"Not I," barked the lazy dog

"Not I," purred the sleepy cat

"Not I," quacked the noisy yellow duck

"Then I will," said the little red hen, so the little red hen planted the seeds all by her self.

but i would like to know the name of the book that contained that story i think richard scarry wrote it and illustrated itStory book from ages ago maybe you have it i just need the name?
I think you're talking about Nursery Tales...It was later called Animal Nursery Tales. Its a "Giant Little Golden Book"

Below are the stories contained in the book I am thinking of:

The Ugly Duckling, The Little Red Hen, The Wold and the Kids, The Three Sillies, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Drakestail.

Hope this is what you're looking for!

“Face facts: Patriot Act aids security, not abuse.” By Paul Rosenzweig

“Security versus Civil Liberties.” By Richard Posner

“The Patriot Act of the 18th Century.” By Ishmael Reed

“Acts of Resistance,” By Elaine Scarry

Can you tell me the similarities and differences between all 4? Compare and contrast their points-of-view, their methods of argument (ie. Posner and Reed use history as examples, while Scarry uses textual analysis)Has anyone read these essays?
Wow what a difficult Q to answer, this is the best I can offer, having never read any of the essays you mention.

I've put together a list of links for you to look at and would suggest airing on the side of caution.

And countless other's you couldn't list! D:How many non-Japanese cartoons have you seen? Can you list them all?
Sorry..... I cant list my whole life..Good Luck!
Too many to count... why did you waste all that time listing those?
a lot . and no ,I can't name them all.
I don't think I'll be able to list them in ABC order, because they'll pop up in my mind at random times.

    xD

Arthur, Ed Edd and Eddy, The Flintestones, Totally Spies, Hey Arnold, Winx Club, The Rugrats, The Wild Thornberries, Spongebob, Scooby-Doo, Whinnie the Pooh, Xiaolin Showdown, The Adventures of Flapjack, Dexter's Laboratory, Chowder, Johney Bravo, Powerpuff Girls (Srsly, how can I forget this, I was obsessed with that show back then. xD), Batman, Kim Possible, Family Guy, American Dad, The Simpons, Phineas and Ferb, Back at the Barnyard, Rugats All Grown Up, Looney Toons, The Angry Beaver, and The Fairly Odd Parents.
Eh, there's a few of those I haven't watched plus tons more that I have.

I have LITERALLY watched every cartoon that came on cartoon network, Disney, Nickelodeon, Fox, WB/CW, over the last 20 years. Plus a couple more channels to boot.

So no, I can't name them all, and I have no intention of trying to put together a comprehensive list of them all.

By the way. Zoboomafoo was only half cartoon. If you can say Zoboomafoo was a cartoon, then I can say Lizzy McGuire was a cartoon.

Name of the video game console or peripheral I had as a kid?

Hi, when I was a kid probably around 13 years ago, I remember having some kind of video game console or some kind of peripheral where kids could draw digital pictures (I don't think by a game controller). I remember playing kids' games that had Sonic and Tails, and also Richard Scarry's Busytown. I particularly remember a game where Tails was running across some platform while Mozart's Turkish March played. For some reason I have a feeling that the console/peripheral looked like a small painter's easel, and that the games were mostly for learning. Does anyone know the name of what I'm talking about, I really want to see that thing again and I don't even know how to begin looking, thanks so much for any help!Name of the video game console or peripheral I had as a kid?
it sounds like the sega pico

in fact im sure it is the pico

Is it wrong if I plan on exposing my future kids in 90's culture?

I'm sure most of you who take the time to fully read this question's content will be thankful for the nostalgia I provide you with.

Here's my question. When I get married and have kids, I plan on exposing them 90's culture. The culture I grew up with (I'm 20 years old right now). I mean this in all aspects. I'm going to have them watch the old TV shows/movies. I'm going to have them read the old books I use to read, I'm going to have them play the old video games I used to play, I'm going to even let have them listen to 90's music, play with my old toys, and even introduce them to snacks/foods from the 90's.. is this wrong?

I feel that the further in time we move, the more boring, unoriginal, bland, and inappropriate everything in our culture becomes. The 90's was an amazing time, and I really think my children would benefit in terms of becoming good people when they grow up if they were exposed to good 'old stuff from the 90's than the stuff kids see in today's world (that will probably end up getting worse)

Here's a list to jog your memory.

I'll have my kid watch shows like: wild thornberries, as told by ginger, rocket power, rugrats, doug, gargoyles, proud family, hey arnold, catdog, ren and stimpy, rocko's modern life, angry beavers, i am weasel, animaniacs, swat kats, dragon ball z, dexter's lab, ninja turtles, kenan and kel, all that, the amanda show, cousin skeeter, spongebob, poke'mon, barney and friends, sesame street, clarrissa, explains it all, pinky and the brain, arthur, franklin the turtle, ah! real monsters, my brother and me, action figure league now, rollie pollie ollie, maggie and the ferocious beast, the big comfy couch, puzzle place, beetle juice, gumby, looney toons, power puff girls, rocky and bullwinkle, the pink panther, jimmy neutron, the busy world of richard scarry, little bill, little bear, cow and chicken, johnny bravo, the flintstones, space ghost coast to coast, jetsons, secret squirrel, yogi bear, 2 stupid dogs, tom and jerry, popeye the sailor man, jonny quest, road runner, sylvester and tweety, digimon, boy meets world, thomas the train, recess, lizzie mcguire, so weird, the jersey, the famous jet jackson, smart guy, guts, legends of the hidden temple, even stevens, disney zoog, duck tales, land before time, mr rogers neighborhood, telletubbies, banan pajama, clifford the big red dog, corduroy, dragon tales, gullah gullah island, angela anaconda, power rangers, old super hero shows like superman, batman, spider man, hulk, xmen, fresh prince of belll air, family matters, full house, beetle borgs, boy meets world, the muppets, brady bunch, road runner and coyote, franklin, the magic school bus, casper, wwf wrestling, the addams family, woody the wood pecker and winnie the pooh

on top of that, I'll expose my kids to classic movies from the 90's. I collected them all from my childhood (they'll probably even watch them on VHS)-- much better than all the kids movies that are coming out today..

    movies include:

beeethoven, star wars movies, pinnochio, oliver and company , chicken run, wishbone, all dogs go to heaven, antz, small soldiers, wishbone, toy story 1, lion kind 1, aladdin, jumanji, babe, honey i shrunk the kids, beauty and the beast, fantasia, 101 dalmations, a bug's life, poccahontas, airbud, homeward bound, home alone, the mighty ducks, flubber, titanic, alice in wonderland, the fox and the hound, hunchback of ND, space jam, jurassic park, hercules, peter pan, snow wight, indian in the cupboard, free willy, men in black etc

Books that my kids will read would include my old childhood books that my parents read to me as kids like:

animorphs, captain underpants, redwall, berenstain bears, goosebumps, maltida and ronald dahl books along with all of the classic books like 3 little pigs, riding hood etc.

My kids will not be getting xbox 360s/PS3s only because games today lack originality. Don't you guys remember when we use to have AMAZING games? Like Zelda Ocarina of time? I feel EVERY kid (boy or girl) must play that game. Other games would include: Zelda Ocarina of time, tekken 3, mario 64, donkey kong 64, grand turismo, snowboard kids, batman beyond, the sims, super smash brothers 1, jet force gemini, banjo kazooie, gex, blitz, tony hawks pro skater 2, final fantasy 7, jet moto, crash bandicoot, pokemon blue/red version. These games are much better than the stuff nowadays, wouldn't you agree?

Snacks they'd get to experience would include:

hi-c, dinosaur fruit snacks, ring candy, blow pops, warheads, honeycombs, hawaiian punch etc..

Last but not least toys - most of my toys as a kid are gone but, I have some from my childhood that my kids will play with like:

hotwheels, mouse trap, jenga, operation, guess who, power ranger toys, wooden trains, legos, beast wars transformers, furby, beanie babies, skip it, super soakers, nerf gIs it wrong if I plan on exposing my future kids in 90's culture?
It is actually very interesting. Every one cherishes his childhood and i agree that the 90's were great. You can expose your children to the shows, games, music you used to listen to but it's completely wrong to enforce them to it. I always wanted my children to watch DBZ and old shows i used to watch but i think it's wrong to deprive of them the great things in their time. Believe me if what you have to give is great then the children will likely enjoy it for example i still listen to classic rock my dad used to listen to but i listen to modern heavy metal genres it's important to move on as time progresses you wouldn't want to be stuck in the 60's. Its important not to forget the past completely but you have to move on so there will be even greater thing in the future... I would say you have to incorporate things you enjoy from the past with new great things from the present.
    1. If you think you're somehow unique because of this, you are delusional. Humans have been doing this for about, oh, 10,000 years now. Yes even the cavemen desired their children to have exactly the same life they did.

    2. Good luck with it. Be prepared for your children to hate it all and totally ignore you.

    3. It may be many years until you have children (especially if you share this goal with your prospective wife). Your feelings may change in the meantime.

    4. Please do NOT show them the Star Wars prequels. Let them enjoy episodes 4-6 unadulterated. Is it wrong if I plan on exposing my future kids in 90's culture?
That's more or less what most parents do: try to share their own generation's culture, which they love, with their kids.

Which is why most kids think their parents are hopelessly old-fashioned.

But it works, in a way. I still remember all of the songs from my parents' generation, and have seen most of the old movies that were hits in their era. In fact, their generation almost seems a part of me, to that respect...

So let them think you're square. Share your good stuff with 'em, whether they like it or not. ;)
I grew up in the 90s and it was awesome. I agree to show your kids 90s culture and encourage them to accept it, but don't force them to watch movies or play games from that period. Expose them to it though.
Dude, let them grow up in modern times, everyone other kid will be and they'll feel left out. Besides, what was so great about the 90's?
^Really what is so great about the 90's, like the modern music is good, there is nothing wrong listening to older music, plus everything was better in the 90's pop, hip, hop, rap, rock

60s-90s and i like some of the music now but really, some of it is just pathetic like that new song "Friday"

I'm looking for children's book from 50s - it had stories %26amp; poems for each month; a Grandfather Groundhog for each month; I think it was Big Golden Book. Some of the illustrations were by Richard Scarry. Can you help me. One of the poems was Buttercup the Cow had a New Baby Calf. We read from it many times when I was a child, and I've been looking all over for it.Looking for children's book from 50s - stories %26amp; poems for each month; Grandfather...?

Subject: A children's book which may be out of print
    Asked by: chana1-ga

Q: Where can I find the children's book that has stories about Grandfather Groundhog and his woodland friends?

The book I am looking for was a book about woodland animals. They included Grandfather Groundhog, Danny Mouse, Freddy Fox and Granny Fox, and others. I read it when I was 5 years old, which is about 46-47 years ago. It was illustrated in color. It followed the months of the year. In January there was a tale appropriate to winter. In July there was Grandfather Groundhog's Fourth of July Tizzy, and so on. Also, this lovely book was
sprinkiled with the poems of Christina Rosetti (I think that's right). I hope this helps you.

    Hello chana1,

Do you think it could be possible that you are thinking of more than one book? I'm wondering this because the forest creatures you describe sound so much like the Thornton Burgess stories that it is hard to believe it isn't them. Here is a list of some of them:

Grandfather Frog / Granny Fox / Danny Meadow Mouse / Reddy Fox / Johnny Chuck [a woodchuck or groundhog] / Billy Possum / Mr. Mocker / Sammy Jay / Buster Bear / Paddy the Beaver / Bob White / Chatterer the Red Squirrel / Unc' Billy Possum / Old Mr. Toad / Prickly Porky / Old Man Coyote

In the Green Meadow Series, you'll find Old Granny Fox / Reddy Fox / Bowser the Hound / Quacker the Duck / Billy Mink, etc. in the Green Forest.

This hardback book was written by Thornton W. Burgess, illustrated by Phoebe Erickson, and published in 1955, by Grosset %26amp; Dunlap. It is approx. 9 .50" x 13 .00", and has approx. 32 unnumbered pages, it is x-library, and is in fair to good condition. The book has all of the normal library markings, the boards show wear with all of the corners turned, the spine is taped, scribble on inside of front board, there are a number of pages tears on the bottom of every page in the book and there is no doubt that this book has been well read, but would make a nice reading copy because of the lovely illustration and nice animal stories. Delightful stories about animals and creatures of the natural world arranged by the seasons of the year and the stories include: "Spring Gossip", "Little Pete has a Scare", Johnny Chuck's Spring Awakening", "A Butterfly's Clothing", "Be Polite to the Skunks", "Peter Rabbit and Mr. Toad", "Two Happy Little Bears", "Who Paints the Leaves?", "Their First Bath", "Baby Bears", and others.

What would a modern world full of anthropomorphic animals be like?

I've always been a fan of anthropomorphic stories, probably because I've always been fascinated by animals and the natural world generally. It was Richard Scarry and Rosemary Wells when I was very young. When I was older, I graduated to such things as Brian Jacques's Redwall books and Robin Jarvis's Deptford Mice Trilogy. I've even found some decent anthropomorphic tales in adulthood; books by authors such as Stephen Baxter and William Horwood, and graphic novels such as Blacksad and Grandeville.

I'm wondering what our world would really be like if, instead of humans, we were upright, talking, intelligent, sentient animals. Imagine anthropomorphic animals living in a modern setting. What habits or interests would we have? What new businesses might there be? What would our history, faiths and politics be like? Would the world be better or worse? Jacques and others have dared to speculate. Perhaps you can too. What would a modern world full of anthropomorphic animals be like?
While anthropomorphic animals could easily be a substitute for humans in the modern world, "zoomorphism" would be a more appropriate conversion as it images "humans as animals" and works pretty much the same way.

Since different species have different needs, habits and interests, it is hard to answer your question.

Humans tend to stereotype certain kinds of animals as having select human-like personalities (i.e. cats are selfish; dogs are friendly).

You would probably have to appropriate certain species for certain people as according to their personality to give a more realistic "personification" effect.

Anthropomorphic animals might worship human-like gods (in replacement for any animal deities that humans may have preyed to in certain cultures in the past), or perhaps humans didn't come into the equation and say, "God" is a "Dog" (reverse letters)? What would a modern world full of anthropomorphic animals be like?

    NaMe ThaT 90's CaRtooN!!?

I am trying to remember the name of a cartoon that I used to watch. I was born in 86 so it was probably early 90s but possibly late 80s. All I remember though is a bunch of different animals living in a town (adults and kids) and there was a cop who was a bulldog and he always carried one of those "cop sticks". Anybody know???

One episode I remember in particular is all the kids putting on a play together and they get in trouble and the dog cop always chases everybody with his stick- hes a grumpy guy.

I dont think its Richard Scarry because I think that cop is a different, nicer dog.NaMe ThaT 90's CaRtooN!!?

    Where the Wild Things Are

basically I like children's books that teach children morals and manners, while making them think and giving them an actual solid story.

    and NOT:

    Richard Scarry

character books (dora, elmo, disney princess, etc.)

books that have very little in the way of storytelling, if any at all, like Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear, what do you see?, If you give a mouse a cookie, and The Hungry Caterpillar.

Based on this list, what else would you recommend? These are some of the children's books I like. Based on this list, what else would you recommend?
When I was younger I loved reading/listening to people read the Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Beatrix Potter, the stories by Hans Christian Anderson (Thumbelina, etc.), the stories by Oscar Wilde (The Happy Prince, etc.), The Magic Faraway tree (and the other books in that series), ALL of Roald Dahl's books (particularly The Witches), the Horrid Henry books, and Dr. Seuss is always a winner. Still love his witty books 10 years later :]
The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett and The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, which I should buy because it's just fabulous. These are some of the children's books I like. Based on this list, what else would you recommend?
anything by enid blyton, famous five are good, but there are loads the land of far beyond is brilliant. These are some of the children's books I like. Based on this list, what else would you recommend?

    Astronauts by David West

Leave Her Alone by Helen Orme

    Sakkara 2 by Michael Carroll

My First Message by Eugene Peterson
    The Wombles!
Some books I loved as a kid were:

    A Cricket in Times Square

    Ralph S Mouse series

    Bunnicula series

Courderoy Bear ( I think that was the title?)

Hans Christian Anderson (although as I got older I found him depressing lol)

    Grimm Fairy Tales

    Andrew Lang fairy tales

    Narnia series

    I was also really into those choose your own adventure books lol %26gt;.%26gt;

You already named some of my other faves as a kid: Amelia Bedelia, Paddington Bear, Madeline, Babar, Beatrix Potter, The Little Prince, Where the Wild Things Are, Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles: Dealing with Dragons / Searching for Dragons / Calling on Dragons / Talking to Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede
I agree very much with your choices, so hopefully we have the same taste. I actually just found a book review on three of my son's favorites. (Olivia, Snowmen at Night and How I Became a Pirate.) Snowmen at night does not have a very in depth story line, but the illustrations are beautiful! And, it does have more meat than Goodnight Moon. The descriptions in this article are longer, and might give you a better idea of whether or not they would be worth your time.

I hope you find what you are looking for! (PS - It might help if you put the age range you are looking for into your original question.)

My children have quite a few of the books on your list.

Have you read anything from Roald Dahl? He was a great children's author. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "George's Marvelous Medicine", "James and the Giant Peach", "The BFG", "Fantastic Mr. Fox", "The Witches", etc. are all books that I have in my collection by Mr. Dahl. I'm working on getting all of them.

Another great classic which definitely teaches good morals would be "The Little House on the Prairie" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. All of the books are very enjoyable.

Last but not least, I would recommend the "Redwall" series by Brian Jacques. It is a fantasy like series, but lessons are definitely learned along the way.

    Happy reading! :)
Oscar Wilde's fairy tales are beautiful.
"The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein

Anything else by Shel Silverstein :)
The original "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Rould Dahl
"The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg, author and illustrator; Caldecott Medal

"Half-Magic" by Edward Eager, with great illustrator Bodecker; begins short series

"The Borrowers" by Mary Norton and illustrators; Carnegie Medal; begins short series

"Tom's Midnight Garden" by Phillipa Pearce and illustrator Einzig; Carnegie Medal; one of a kind

"The Book Dragon" by Donn Kushner... this historically accurate book (with the POV of a dragon) and the above books fit your question and are great reading

These are books I kept from childhood and gave my kid.

I often purchase a few more copies as gifts, plus to keep and read occasionally myself.

    ADD:

    "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White

"Five Children and It" by E. Nesbit (anything she wrote)

  • How can I get books from "My NOOK Library" on to my Nook color?

I have several books showing up on the "My NOOK Library" page off my Barnes and Noble account page. However, I can't figure out how to get them on to my Nook color. I've tried going to Quick Nav -%26gt; Library and click the "Sync" icon, but nothing happens. I've tried downloading some of them (some won't download; one I did DL was "Dracula), connecting my Nook to my computer (a Macbook Pro) via USB and dragging the file to the nook. But because the file is a PDB (having a PDB extension), it isn't recognized by the Nook when I go to open it. One book I'm trying to get on to my nook is the free "Richard Scarry's Colors". I saw it on the demo Nook color in the store but I can't figure out how to get it on to my Nook color.

What am I missing? How can I get the books showing up at the Barnes and Noble site on the "My NOOK Library" page actually on to my Nook color?

    thnx,

ChristophHow can I get books from "My NOOK Library" on to my Nook color?
Hi, Christoph B, I assume you already figured out Wi-Fi setup for Nook Color thus you can connect to Internet - I didn't see it in your post? Also, did you register it to your B%26amp;N account? In this case, you should be able to sync your NOOKcolor to your BN.com account to make sure it is updated with all the latest content. In the lower left corner of the Library is a button with two curved arrows forming a circle. This is the Sync button. Synching your NOOKcolor downloads your latest purchases, including purchases made online and from other devices linked to your account, downloads any lend notices, software updates, and other items.

If you don't have wireless connection available at your home, you could do it at any Barnes %26amp; Noble store that provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's or any Starbucks or any McDonalds or airport or any other place that provides free Wi-Fi service.

Otherwise, you can download the book to your PC and then connect your NOOKcolor to a computer (using the NOOKcolor microUSB cable) to transfer personal files. Your NOOKcolor will appear on your computer as a removable drive. Just click on the file on your computer and copy it (drag-and-drop) to the appropriate NOOKcolor folder.

All of your personal photos, images and videos can be found in "my files" located in your NOOKcolor library. 1) Tap on "library"; 2) Tap on "my files". There are many folders within "my files" to store multimedia content: Pictures, Videos, etc. These files may also be accessed through the Gallery found in under Extras from the Home Screen.

Personal files saved on a microSD card installed in your NOOKcolor can be found in your Library.

    1. Press the Home Button

    2. Tap on the Quick Nav Arrow

    3. Tap on "library"

    4. Tap on "my files"

    5. Tap on "Memory Card", found at the top of the screen, just below the row of icons. How can I get books from "My NOOK Library" on to my Nook color?
Make sure your Nook color is registered. As soon as you do, all the books you have on your account will appear. If they don't, turn off your nook and then turn it on again.

You can go to bn.com to find out how to register it.

Why do you need to break it down further than a range. Remember that no two kids are exactly the same in level or interests.

For example, my daughter could recite Are you my Mother at 2 years 8 months but my son wasn't interested in that book until he was 3yrs 7 months. I was told the book was designed for the 3 to 4 year old.

What is the name of the style of painting/drawing evident in the work of artists such as Corinne Malvern (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/154/337453760_a4c618c2a4.jpg?v=0) and early Richard Scarry (http://drawn.ca/wordpress/wp-content/images/howdy.jpg)?? A contemporary reference is the artwork for the band Eels, note: it's particularly birds i'm interested in (http://saladdaysmusic.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/uselesstrinkets_cover.jpg)

    Any help much appreciated.

ThanksWhat is this style of drawing/painting?
Only one of your connections is working but that dosn't really matter because most people know Richard Scary. These are 'illustrators' rather than painters and there is not really a name for such a style per se. Malvern did do some "Painting" but it is not very highly regarded and I think rightly so. Here children's book illustration is typical of the 30s and 40s inexpensive books for children. This illustration style would widely be regarded as a lower point in children's book which really improved in the 60s. This is not to say that all of her work is bad but the sweet (rather sappy) nature of her images was soon considered passe and too corny for children's book illustration. Scary on the other hand had some false starts but then his cartoon animal style of the 60s and seventies was very influential in the flat, graphic color style that many children's books took on.What is this style of drawing/painting?
I only saw the first, because the others are inaccessible.

I call this the "children's style" or the "no style at all".What is this style of drawing/painting?
    Linear illustration. It's cute.

Books that gave you weird ideas / expectation about foreign countries?

which weird ideas and expectations do you have about foreign countries- simpley from reading a book set there? i mean- ideas you simply cant shake off, even though you know it's ridiculous.

an american friend told me he was really dissapointed that london wanst 'all edwardian' because that's what his expectation was from mary poppins. obviously, he's seen modern tv, and knows otherwise, but he still *expected* it. i laughed at him, obviously, then realised i do it too..

i *slightly* expect to see foxes and bears driving cars in france due to my ricahrd scarry obsession, from when i was small.

i also vaguely think there are trolls in scandinavia (thank you moomin books) and that most of the south of the US is peopled by women in crinolenes, due to overreading of gone with the wind.

i *know* the world isnt like that- but these thoughts are so deeply ingrained in me that i can kind of hold them, and a contradictory 'real' view of a place.

weird, but i think im happy with that... so what wild ideas cant you obliterate??

this is the richard scarry book i LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

This? It has the little red hen story and others

No problem! LOL! I love the little red hen story, with her lazy housemates! :D xStory book from ages ago maybe you have it i just need the name?
I'm glad you got your answer. However I just wanted to say that Richard Scarry did not write The Little Red Hen. That was written many years ago - it was an old folk tale from Russia and I have never known the author's name. It's just one of those tales that got told over and over again to subsequent generations. I read it in the 1950's in school.

    Help with a sociology project?

ok, its for my sociology class and it ask for me to analyze two children' books from different decades. I already have one, which is a Richard Scarry book but i need another one but I dont know which one to choose. I prefer an easy book and preferably a book in the 1960s-2000s but not the 1990s since the Richard Scarry book is in that decade, so can anyone suggest a good, easy book? and can anyone tell me where to read it online? thanks!!!!Help with a sociology project?
it's not in your time frame, but...

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It was written in 1865.

It would provide a good contrast between more modern children's literature, and victorian era children's literature.Help with a sociology project?
Edward Lear is the author of many short poems and limericks. The sociological implications of his writing would be excellent. No politically correct stuff in HIS writings. British too

    Whats your favourite childrens book?

My son is 5 and my daughter is 1, we read every night and I would like to hear what books are a great read!!!!! Our favourites are Where's Wally, Dr Seuss and Richard Scarry.Whats your favourite childrens book?
Here comes crocodile by Kathryn White,Don't put your finger in the jelly, Nelly! by Nick Sharratt and I've lost my yellow zebra by Angela Brooksbank - all 3 keep my 2 year old entertained!!
Both my daughters (3 and 5) love 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' by Judith Kerr. It was one book I always remember from when I was young.

They know it off by heart now and they always say the last line together shaking their heads so seriously-it always makes me laugh!Whats your favourite childrens book?
Any Noddy books by enid blyton, and also i loved babar - i think they have made that into a tv programme now!Whats your favourite childrens book?
shel silverstein books are great---invest in Where The Sidewalk Ends and also The Giving Tree....my 3 year old loves Chicka Chicka Boom Boom(it's an alphabet book of sorts) and curious george is great for kids getting older
when i was a kid i used to love reading Funny Bones, Harry Potter is a good one as well because adults enjoy it too!
My kids (girl-4 / boy-3) love, "Possum Magic" by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas.
Colin Dan and the animals of farthing wood is good and he has written loads more talking animal stories, but I also love any Roald Dahl and where the wild things are.

My son is a fan of thomas the tank engine so we usually read those at bedtime. peep peep!!
Any of the Dr. Seuss or Shel Silverstein books make the grade, as well as "Where the Wild Things Are", but my most favorite, %26amp; I know that it has become a bit controversial over the last few years is, "Love You Forever". It always makes me cry.
we have a book full of "bedtime stories" and one of "fairy tales"
    my little boy loves ,

Guess how much I love you?

We're going on a bear hunt

    The very hungry caterpillar
I have two daughters -- 3 years old and almost 2. Their favorites change regularly, but here are some that they really like this week.

"Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel" and "Katy and the Big Snow" by Virginia Burton -- stories that teach a good work ethic and have lots of big machinery that kids love (Katy is a crawler tractor with bulldozer and snow plow attachments. Maryann is the steam shovel in the other story.)

anything with Winnie the Pooh in it

"Mrs. Wishy-Washy" by Joy Cowley -- very funny and simple enough for beginning readers to read alone
Four years is quite a large age gap between children - my own are now 17 and 21. You could ask your son to make a book for his little sister. That way, both children are involved and at their own level of understanding. Pictures cut out of magazines and stuck in a scrap book with a word or two underneath were the starting point for my children.
"Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch

    All Dr. Seuss books

    All Berenstein Bears books
My best friend found this book called "Love You Forever" by Robert N Munsch and Sheila McGraw that I absolutely fell in love with and I also love "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob and Brooke Carlisle. I read those both to my girls!
Guess how much I love you?

We're going on a bear hunt

    The very hungry caterpillar
I used to read a series of books written by a child/teenager and they were stories about fruit and vegetables that hand hands/feet etc etc. I can't remember what the series was called now but it was in the early 80's.
    mary poppins..p.l.travers
    anything by debbie gliori.

the snail and the whale is also good, as is a squash and a squeeze.

and to be traditional winnie the pooh
The Little Old Man who could not Read by Irma Simonton-Black. It may be hard to find, but your kids will love it. My boys are 5 and 2 and they asked me to read this one several times a day.
Walter the Farting Dog (yes it is a childrens book and it is a best seller)

    Goodnight moon

Guess how much I love you

    Dr. Seuss ABC book

    Love them all
Any Roald Dahl are brilliant. My Dad used to read me Wind in the Willows which I still look back on with great memories. Enid Blyton is fun and easy. What Katy Did series are old now but still great - they were read tome as well.
My favourite books are any Shirley Hughes books with Alfie and Annie Rose. I love the drawings in her books. I have bought most of her books for my daughters. I have to say I love Guess How Much I Love You? Its a beautiful story and I still get a little choked up at the end LOL!
    "Oi, get off my train!"

quality book, kept my little 'un entertained from the age of 1 to 4. Encourages them to join in, and has an ecological message as well.
My daughter is 2, she has tons of books! She doesn't really have any favorites yet, but some that she likes are Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, and Bears on Wheels (a Seuss). I like Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, because when it says "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, I love you" I always give her a little hug, and she's gotten used to it and will anticipate it at that part of the book. She'll always get a little grin on her face right before I do it. It's just our special little thing!
i'm parital to these ... its free...so are my grand kids
